While there’s been a summer break in the International GT Open calendar, Optimum Motorsport has used the time wisely with both Ollie Wilkinson and Bradley Ellis getting in plenty of testing at both Silverstone and Monza in readiness for the next two rounds of the championship.

This coming weekend (1-2 September) the duo, currently sixth in the Pro-Am standings, are all set to compete at the home of British Motorsport and as ever are keen to add to the silverware already secured in their maiden campaign.

The recent test at Silverstone however proved to be a little difficult for the team to read with the #96 Audi R8 LMS working very well one day only for small changes to the setup compromising lap time on the newly resurfaced circuit. The team however remain bullish and further podiums remain the objective.

Shaun Goff, Team Principal
“After a solid result in Hungary, we’re looking to get back to racing with the Audi R8. We tested at both Monza and Silverstone and that should put us in good stead for the next two rounds of the championship.

“We did find the Silverstone test a little mixed as we achieved the target lap times and then as soon as we made a slight tweak to the setup, we lost time when we would have expected to gain. Still, we’re looking forward to our home race in GT Open and it’s all part of the learning curve for Ollie.”

Bradley Ellis
“Overall, we were strong in Hungary and the lap times were competitive, even if the kerbs were a challenge for us. Then we went to Silverstone but each time we test there the lap times vary with the new track surface and that it makes it hard for us to tell where we are.

“We have however made the car easier to drive over the season. It’s our home race; we have a strong driver pairing, so we should be in with a good shout with the podium as the target.”
