Having swapped two wheels for four, Ginetta G40 newcomer Jason Kenny has now set his sights firmly on the podium for his inaugural season racing in the Ginetta GT5 Challenge.

The Olympic Cyclist is well acquainted with the top spot of the podium, having won 2 gold medals for Great Britain during the 2012 Olympics. Kenny is now hoping to bring similar success to the race track.

“As you can imagine, I’m an extremely competitive person and I’d love to get on the podium at some point during the season” said Kenny. “I’m pleased with how pre-season testing has gone so far and feel comfortable with the car.”

With only one previous race under his belt, Kenny is still a novice. However, this hasn’t lessened his aims for 2013.

“It might seem a bit ambitious but I’m determined to push myself. I’ve loved pre-season testing and can’t wait for the first race at Oulton Park.”

Kenny will balance his Ginetta racing around a very busy cycling schedule.  “With the cycling world championships taking top priority, the motorsport has to come second. I’ll be testing and racing as much as possible this year but naturally the cycling must come first."

Kenny will be racing with multiple Ginetta Champions, Optimum Motorsport, who have been pleased with his progress. Considering his limited experience, Jason has performed incredibly well so far,” said Optimum boss Shaun Goff.  “He has been on the pace during testing and our driver coach, Joe Osborne, has been genuinely impressed with his speed.”

The first three rounds of the Ginetta GT5 championship takes place on 30th March at Oulton Park.
