Podiums on both sides of the pond
It was a champagne-filled weekend for both our Optimum Motorsport and Inception Racing crew, claiming podiums and silverware in both Spa-Francorchamps and Stateside at the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen.
British GT
The domestic series’ journey abroad proved to be a success for the Wakefield-based outfit. With testing and practice in the unusually warm Belgian sun, all eyes turned to the evening’s qualifiers. As per British GT’s usual endurance format, the GT3s headed out for Q1 and Q2, with GT4s heading out on track for Q3 & Q4.
It was a strong session for the GT3 side of Optimum’s quartet of McLarens, with Morgan and Marvin securing a front row start for the three-hour race. The sister #3 entry steered by 2022 GT4 Pro-Am Champion, Matt Topham whom had steeped in for Mike Price, alongside Callum Macleod started further back in eighth.
Once again, the duo of Arturas were separated by mere tenths of the second, lining up side-by-side in third and fourth after their qualifying efforts.
Sunday was set for a scorcher…and that was just the temperatures off track. All four McLarens had a clean getaway, with Harry in the #17 GT4 defending Templeton in Century’s BMW for second place. Ahead of the field, Tillbrook made the move of Tse’s Merc at the bus stop chicane to climb back up to fifth after losing places on the opening laps.
As the first hour began to tick away, cars came in for their first of three mandatory stops. No sooner had driver changes been completed, cars were back in under FCY conditions as the #14 BMW found itself stranded on track. The midway stage drew closer and as did the Safety Car restart. The drivers that had started the race, were all back in the hot seat for the restart.
Marv was on the charge, closing in on Barwell’s #78 Lamborghini Huracan, making the move to sit P5. With one Lambo passed, the #1 Lambo sat ahead with 30 minutes to go along with Paddock’s McLaren that sat in second.
On the inside at La Source, wheel-to-wheel up Eau Rouge, Marvin made the move on both out of Radillion to bring the #77 McLaren GT3 EVO home in second-place. The sister #3 GT3 also brought home a strong points haul crossing the line in 10th overall.
Harry and Luca took Silver honours, crossing the line fourth overall, with Marc and Jack - GT4’s current championship leaders behind in fifth (P3 in Pro-AM) after serving their maximum Compensation Time from their success back at Oulton Park.
IMSA
The weather in Watkins, similarly to Spa, you can never predict. What was a Sunday that started out dry certainly didn’t stay that way.
Starting 12th in class after Saturday’s qualifying efforts, the first hours of the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen, IMSA’s third endurance round of the 2025 season, ran under many weather conditions once lights went out.
Multiple FCY and Safety Cars periods followed when the skies opened 30 minutes into the race, seeing many cars diving into the pits to switch from slicks to wets.
By the third hour, Inception Racing’s 296 GT3 had climbed to third in class (GTD) to claim a strong haul of points towards their Michelin Endurance Cup campaign. Having cycled through their usual pitstop routines, which had been executed to precision by our pitstop crew it was Fred that was in for the final stint to bring the car home second in class to secure the team’s first IMSA podium of the season.
The Incepotion Racing trio of Brendan, Ollie and Fred now sit joint at the top of the GTD Michelin Endurance Cup standings.
