Optimum Motorsport is an established and highly respected international GT racing team, with a proven track record of competing at the highest levels of sports car racing. Operating from our UK base near Wakefield, we prepare and run GT machinery across a demanding programme of national and international championships and endurance events.

Our racing activities include GT World Challenge Europe, British GT Championship, International GT Open and selected major endurance events, working with both professional and amateur racing drivers. With an experienced and dedicated team both at the workshop and track, Optimum Motorsport is committed to delivering the highest standards of preparation, professionalism and performance in every programme we undertake.

We are currently recruiting for a Chief Truckie and Truckie / Tyre Technician to join our team.

Both positions are hands-on roles and will involve working at our UK workshop as well as travelling extensively to race and test events throughout the UK, Europe and internationally.

We are looking for people who are organised, self-motivated and take genuine pride in maintaining the high standards expected within a professional motorsport environment. A Class 1 HGV licence is essential for the Chief Truckie role, but not for the Truckie / Tyre Technician role.

TRANSPORT & EVENT LOGISTICS

A key part of the both roles will be ensuring that the team, its cars and equipment arrive at each event safely, efficiently and fully prepared.

Responsibilities will include:

• Driving the team's race transporters to UK and European circuits, where required (if relevant HGV licence held).
• Preparing race transporters ahead of each event and ensuring all required equipment, spares and consumables are loaded.
• Developing and working from clear truck, container and freight load plans.
• Loading and securing race cars, equipment, flight cases and spares correctly for transport.
• Coordinating the loading and unloading of transporters and freight containers at both the workshop and circuit.
• Assisting with the movement of equipment for fly-away events, including air and sea freight.
• Ensuring the team's transporters, trailers and support vehicles are kept clean, organised and maintained to a professional standard.
• Working with the Operations Team to ensure event deadlines, freight movements and transport schedules are achieved.
• Understanding and complying with relevant HGV regulations, drivers' hours and international transport requirements.
• Assisting with customs documentation and carnets when travelling internationally.

For the Chief Truckie position, the successful candidate will be expected to take a role in planning and coordinating the team's transport and logistical requirements.

WORKSHOP & EQUIPMENT PREPARATION

Between events, the role will form an important part of ensuring the race team is properly prepared for the next test or race event.

Duties will include:

• Preparing and checking pit, garage and awning equipment before departure.
• Maintaining the team's flight cases, pit equipment, flooring, workstations and associated infrastructure.
• Identifying damaged or worn equipment and arranging repairs or replacement where necessary.
• Keeping logistics and operational equipment organised and correctly stored within the workshop.
• Monitoring stocks of commonly used consumables and ensuring appropriate quantities are available for upcoming events.
• Preparing trucks and trailers for each event and returning them to a high standard following their return.
• Supporting mechanics and other departments with general event preparation when required.
• Maintaining an organised inventory so that equipment can be easily located and accounted for.
• Taking ownership of assigned equipment rather than simply waiting for issues to be identified by others.

TYRE MANAGEMENT

Tyre management is an important part of these positions, particularly for the Truckie / Tyre Technician role. The successful candidate must be comfortable taking responsibility for the organisation, preparation and tracking of the team's race tyres throughout an event.

Responsibilities will include:

• Managing the team's tyre stock throughout race and test events.
• Working closely with the race engineers to ensure the correct tyre allocation is available and prepared for each car and session.
• Maintaining an accurate tyre tracking spreadsheet throughout the event.
• Recording tyre sets, serial numbers, allocations, usage, heat cycles and other relevant information.
• Ensuring tyres and wheels are clearly identified and correctly allocated to the appropriate car.
• Preparing tyre sets according to the team's run plan and ensuring they are available at the required time.
• Experience operating tyre ovens and an understanding of correct tyre heating procedures.
• Experience assembling and setting up tyre ovens and associated equipment at events.
• Loading and unloading tyre ovens safely and efficiently while maintaining the required heating schedule.
• Working with engineers and mechanics to ensure tyre pressures and preparation requirements are followed accurately.
• Monitoring tyre oven temperatures and heating times to ensure tyres are presented consistently.
• Maintaining clear communication with the engineering team regarding available sets, new and used tyre stock and upcoming requirements.
• Managing the return, storage and transportation of used and unused tyres following each event.
• Liaising with championship tyre suppliers and tyre fitting services where required.
• Ensuring wheels are kept clean, correctly labelled and presented ready for use.
• Assisting with wheel and tyre movements to and from fitting areas during events.
• Keeping the tyre working area clean, organised and safe throughout the event.
• Ensuring tyre equipment, pressure gauges, airlines and associated tools are maintained and ready for use.
• Maintaining accurate records so that the engineering team can quickly establish the history and status of any tyre set.

Previous experience managing tyres within GT, endurance or other professional motorsport environments would be highly advantageous.

EVENT & PADDOCK RESPONSIBILITIES

At the circuit, both positions will play an important role in creating and maintaining the team's working environment.

Responsibilities will include:

• Building and dismantling the team's awning and garage infrastructure.
• Setting up flooring, lighting, work benches, engineering areas, tyre equipment and pit equipment.
• Ensuring the garage and working areas are fully operational ahead of the team's required start time.
• Maintaining a clean, professional and organised garage, awning and paddock environment throughout the event.
• Supporting mechanics and engineers with equipment and operational requirements during sessions.
• Assisting with pit stops and pit lane operations where required.
• Ensuring equipment is returned to its correct location following each session.
• Preparing the team's equipment for pack-down following the final session.
• Managing the loading of trucks and freight containers according to the agreed load plan.
• Ensuring equipment is accounted for before leaving the circuit.
• Supporting the wider team wherever required to ensure the event runs efficiently.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Motorsport is a demanding environment, and weare looking for people who understand that these positions involve considerably more than simply driving a race transporter.

The successful candidates will be practical, organised and proactive, with the ability to recognise what needs doing and get on with it. Attention to detail is essential, particularly when dealing with tyre allocations, freight, equipment and event preparation.

Applicants should be comfortable working long and sometimes unsociable hours during race events and understand the flexibility required when working within an international race programme.

Previous professional motorsport experience is strongly preferred, with GT and endurance racing experience particularly relevant.

For the Chief Truckie position, we are looking for someone capable of taking ownership of the transport and logistics operation, coordinating other truckies where required and working closely with the workshop, operations and engineering departments.

For the Truckie / Tyre Technician position, previous experience of race tyre management, tyre ovens and maintaining accurate tyre records would be particularly beneficial.

Applicants who hold the appropriate HGV licence and have experience driving race transporters throughout the UK and Europe will be preferred.
