Huge weekend of racing at Rockingham
This weekend (2-3 May) at Rockingham sees Optimum Motorsport expand its operations significantly, with an additional entry in the Protyre Motorsport GT5 Challenge for James Robinson, plus a solo entry in the Ginetta Racing Drivers Club+ for Andy Marshall.
Arriving at the Corby circuit, Optimum Motorsports are in an enviable position, leading both the Avon Tyres British GT4 Championship with Graham Johnson and Mike Robinson, and the Protyre Motorsport GT5 Challenge with Stewart Linn.
Looking to build on a strong debut in British GT4 last time out at Oulton, Johnson and Robinson have 43 points, ten clear of their nearest rivals, Lotus duo Oz Yusuf and Gavan Kershaw.
Linn (91 points), is 18 points clear at the top of the GT5 Challenge in the #3 Optimum Ginetta, with TCR's James Kellett in second. Dan O'Brien in the #44 Optimum G40 is seventh in championship with 42 points.
Rockingham is also the first of five weekends in the British GT Championship to be televised live on Motors TV. This means that anyone in the UK with a ‘Freeview’ television will be able to watch the racing live on Sunday from 13:00.
