Last-lap drama sees Inception Racing claim Gold Cup win, their second of the 2022 season. The team head into the final round at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya with a 9-point lead over title rivals Iron Dames.

Starting Sunday’s three-hour endurance race second in class (P24 overall), Brendan was on starting duties for the trio. Jota’s #38 McLaren entry found itself in the wall on the opening lap, bringing out the Safety Car. For more than 30 minutes the field followed whilst repairs we made before the green light was shown.

When racing resumed, the #71 Iron Lynx Ferrari found itself struck but its sister entry, denying both cars a chance of any success. Meanwhile, Brendan had moved up to second within class, hunting down the #911 Gold Class Porsche ahead. Moments later, not only had he caught, but also overtaken to snatch the lead with over two hours and 20 minutes of the race remaining.

Although losing time in the first pit stop, Ollie made gains out on track to move up from fourth to second in class before handing over to Fred for the final hour.

The race was neutralised with 30 minutes left on the clock when the #11 Audi found itself in the barriers at turn 1. After a quick safety car Fred was hot on the tails of the class leading Porsche. A last-lap puncture from the #911 Porsche which had led much of the race saw the Inception Racing trio snatch the Gold Cup honours moments before the chequered flag to claim their second GT World Challenge win of the season.

The team now regain the championship lead and head into the final round 9 points clear of Iron Dames. It’s all to play for next month at the season finale at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

Ollie Millroy

“Yes! We won in Hockenheim. We hung on until the very end in second place until the lead car got a puncture on the final lap. We’re back into the lead of the championship now as we head into the final round. An amazing job by my teammates and the whole crew.”
