Optimum Motorsport enters 2012 British GT and Britcar with Ginetta G55 GT3
Optimum Motorsport announced today that it will be contesting both the MSA British Endurance Championship (Britcar) and the British GT Championship in the new Ginetta G55 GT3 in 2012.
The team, which has a successful track record with Ginettas in both the Ginetta Challenge and the GT Supercup, will continue to compete in these championships this year while expanding into endurance racing.
Optimum Motorsport claimed three wins in the 2011 GT Trophy and Britcar rounds with drivers Lee Mowle and George Murrells. The pair is expected to return in 2012 to lead the assault on the Britcar championship.
Shaun Goff, Team Principal at Optimum Motorsport, is keen to build on the team’s success in endurance racing, saying, “We learnt a great deal in 2011 and are very confident we can hit the ground running in 2012. The new Ginetta G55 GT3 is the perfect addition to our stable of cars and enables us to offer drivers a route to the pinnacle of British GT racing.
“We’re probably best known for our success in the Ginetta Championships, having won the Ginetta Challenge five times and, while this and Supercup remain at the heart of our plans, we are keen to move forward. Endurance racing is the natural next step.
“In the right hands we expect the GT3 car to be a potential championship winner and, while we are yet to confirm this year’s driver line-up, we’re talking to several very interested and capable drivers.”
Optimum Motorsport takes delivery of the 540 bhp Ginetta at the end of February and has a comprehensive testing programme planned in advance of its British GT debut in April.
