Optimum Motorsport took its first GT4 class win at Norfolk’s Snetterton 300 circuit in round five of the 2012 Avon Tyres British GT Championship.

The victory was the first win for the George Murrells and Lee Mowle driver pairing in their debut in the championship.

An eventful opener saw numerous leaders of the GT4 class before Murrells led home the Optimum Ginetta. The race was a 1-2 for Ginetta, with Zoe Wenham and Dom Evans securing second spot in their G50.

The second race saw Murrells, who started in fourth, lead as the car crossed the line after the opening lap. He rapidly built a commanding lead prior to his pit stop just after the half hour mark, but an oil leak forced the team to retire the car a few laps into Mowle’s stint.

"Murrells was blisteringly quick all weekend and took an impressive fastest lap in race two,’ said Shaun Goff, Optimum Motortsport’s Team Principal. "At one stage I thought we were going to get the double as we opened up a commanding 27-second lead before the pit stop, which made the oil leak that much harder to take."

Optimum Motorsport’s GT4 will be out next at the Silverstone round of the British GT Championship on the 8-9th September on the Grand Prix circuit.
