It’s been a standout season to date for Optimum Motorsport and Ollie Wilkinson in both the British GT Championship as well as the International GT Open. The British Racing Drivers’ Club have certainly taken note and a result, Ollie is proud to become the latest BRDC Rising Star.

The season started with Ollie becoming part of the Aston Martin Racing Driver Academy, a programme aimed at developing the aspiring talent and an opportunity to become an AMR Junior for 2020. Armed with the new GT3 package, Optimum Motorsport and Ollie secured a fine podium at the first round of the British GT Championship. The first victory came as the championship travelled to Spa Francorchamps.

In GT Open, regular podium positions became an outright win at the Red Bull Ring. With the season starting to draw to a close, Ollie and the team already have the British GT Silver Cup to their names, with further success on the horizon.

“I’m very proud of this recognition from the BRDC,” Ollie began. “This is a huge accolade for me, and it has happened faster than I could have ever hoped. It ticks so many boxes and puts you, as a driver, in front of so many influential people and this can only be earned through results and success.

“So, it’s a massive compliment from them in my third year of racing and they have given me so much great feedback on my GT Open and British GT Championship progress this year. It’s lovely to hear and I’m delighted to be a BRDC Rising Star.”

For Optimum Motorsport Team Principal Shaun Goff, the progress made by Ollie in such a short period of time is especially satisfying. “Ollie first joined us in the Ginetta Championship and his raw speed was apparent from the very start,” Goff said. “With great teammates such as Bradley Ellis, Darren Turner and most recently Jonny Adam, he has made tremendous progress in the GT3 category. As a team, we know that if we provide his with a competitive package, he’ll be right up there challenging for wins and that is very impressive given this is just his third season of competition.”
