Optimum takes well earned second in season opener

Optimum secured an unexpected podium finish on Saturday against difficult circumstances, with Lee Mowle and George Murrells taking second in Class 1 at the MSA Britcar Endurance opener at Silverstone.

The result was much better than the team had expected going in to the weekend, as unforeseen delays with the delivery of their new 530 bhp Ginetta G55 GT3 meant the team was forced to run their G50, which with a mere 330bhp was grossly under-powered compared to its Class 1 rivals.

“The lack of straight line speed, especially on a circuit like Silverstone, is a huge disadvantage,” said Team Principal Shaun Goff. “Had the GT3 car been ready, I am confident we would have had the legs on the Mosler and taken the victory which on the GT3’s maiden outing would have been especially sweet and a great boost for all the team at Ginetta who have worked so hard on this project.”

Optimum expects to take delivery of the GT3 car this week in time for testing at Oulton Park prior to next weekend’s British GT Championship opener.
