Optimum Motorsport target British GT title at Donington Park

It’s been a sensational first season for Optimum Motorsport’s British GT Championship driver pairing of Flick Haigh and Jonny Adam as they head to the season finale at Donington Park with a 27.5-point lead in the championship.

The team hit the ground running at the start of the season with a sensational debut victory for Flick Haigh in the #75 Aston Martin Vantage GT3 at Oulton Park. She and Jonny continued to shine throughout the season before recording another dominant victory at Brands Hatch last month and setting up a championship challenge.

This coming weekend, the team needs to overcome a 20-second success penalty during the mandatory pit stop, but the team are determined to treat this race just like any other, pushing to the maximum without thinking too much about championship implications. The reality however is that a top-six position would give Optimum Motorsport the GT3 drivers’ title regardless of results from the competition.

‍“It’s been a great partnership with Aston Martin Racing this year in British GT. It’s hard not to think about the championship but we will do our best to treat it like any other race. The win will be difficult with the additional 20-seconds, but Flick has shown she is more than capable of running away at the front of the field and this is something that we’ll be aiming to do again.”

‍“I am looking forward to Donington, it’s a circuit I like and the tests we have done there were positive. I am trying to treat it as any normal race weekend and enjoy it. Whatever the outcome, I have thoroughly enjoyed this season.”

‍“Donington decider yet again! It's been an enjoyable 2018 British GT season with Flick and Optimum Motorsport with success throughout. We go into the final round with the lead in the championship and a clear focus of what's needed. We've tested well there recently so hopefully that will put us in a good position to fight for a great result.

“It's also the last race of the current GT3 Aston Martin Vantage, a car which has had huge success in British GT over its seven-year period and brought me some great memories throughout.”
