Optimum Motorsport’s Gary Simms literally flew round the twists and turns of Cadwell Park on Sunday to claim his second win of the season. He also took a further two podiums over the weekend, bagging a bundle of points in the Total Quartz Ginetta GT5 Challenge.

Simms topped the table at Cadwell with 91 points - a result that sees him close the gap on the championship leaders. Simms is now in third place overall and just 24 points adrift of current table topper, Ryan Ratcliffe.

"The DNF at Brands Hatch last time out has left me chasing my main rivals, but a few more weekends like Cadwell and I won’t be far away come the end of the season," said a confident Simms.

"This is still only Gary’s fourth race weekend in the G40, having stepped up from the G20 he raced last season, so to be mixing it with the more experienced front runners so quickly is a sign of his capabilities," said Shaun Goff, Team Principal. "I am also pleased with the progress Lee Mowle and David Barker made this weekend. Cadwell is a daunting circuit and for Lee to be within a second of the front runners, especially when he was racing on used tyres, surprised me a little, I must confess. In hindsight we should have had him on new boots as he could probably have been challenging for a podium spot.

"As for David Barker, his qualifying time of 1.38.9, considering his level of experience, was exceptional. I was so pleased for him. He is really starting to get to grips with the car. Our only disappointment was that Thiago Calvet was unable to make the trip from Brazil - he would have loved Cadwell."
